Developers have been busy transforming The Medical Towers (a historical Houston building constructed in 1956) into a new Westin Hotel. But when contractor Steel Masters needed some additional lifting power, they turned to a set of twin Maeda MC305 Mini Cranes.
Steel Masters rented the two cranes for an exterior steel erection project on top deck of a parking garage structure because their overall weight of 8,950 lbs. provided Steel Masters the flexibility and strength they needed to work and maneuver in a confined workspace.
The two MC305s were hoisted from street level to the top level of the existing parking garage structure with a large mobile crane and were immediately put to work erecting steel for the new garage structure.
Using the MC305s eliminated the need for Steel Masters to block traffic on the busy street below and work more efficiently when compared to lifting with a large, ground-level machine.
